Facilities

We currently train both on the River Cam in Cambridge and the River Ouse at Ely. Ely provides a fantastic stretch of water for developing high performance crews, with a 5km straight and launch coaching. Our coaching team is lead by full-time coach John Thicknes.

The latest addition to our fleet of boats is a 2010 Wing Rigger Fillipi, identical to boat used by the Leander Women and the Leander Lightweights at the Head of the River this year. We are based at Emmanuel College Boat House, and use a variety of facilities including Fenner's Gym and Goldie Boat House for our land training.

We have an extremely comprehensive training set-up covering all aspects of a high performance training program and we work with a wide number of professionals to achieve this.

Training Programme

The CULRC training programme is more intensive than most college programmes, with 10 or 11 sessions most weeks. These sessions are, however, designed to fit around academic work. The water-based sessions are generally in the morning, finishing in good time for early lectures. The land training is done in the evenings.

The season starts in September, allowing for a few weeks of training before the start of term. Through the year the squad will enter many head races (both on and off Cam) and regattas in the summer (such as BUCS, Met, Marlow, HRR). There is also a development programme during the summer where college athletes can train and compete with CULRC before trailling begins.
