The development squad exists to help potential trialists make the transition from college rowing to university rowing. To join the dev squad athletes must have rowed for at least a year. It is also open to people joining the university in the coming season. Selection for the squad which will trial is done in September. It runs in the Easter term and Summer holiday in preparation for the next season. Special focus is made on teaching rowers how to scull, a key part of the trialing process in Michaelmas.
The development squad begins in Easter term with sessions on weekend mornings and some weekdays. After term ends, there is a an intense period of training, usually culminating in a summer regatta, such as Kingston. This is a good opportunity to demonstrate one’s potential to the Coaching Team.
Many potential trialists may be busy in Easter term and the Summer holidays. Dev Squad is flexible but you are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.
