CULRC was founded to defeat Oxford’s club OULRC in the Lightweight Boat Race. We aim to peak for this race.
The lightweight race is one of the Henley Boat Races, the other being the Lightweight Women’s Boat Race. The event takes place on the River Thames at Henley, usually the week before the Heavyweight Boat Races that is held on the Championship Course in London. The Henley Boat races take place over a 2,000m course, downstream, the opposite direction to the Henley Royal Regatta course, and finish halfway down Temple Island.
Cambridge currently lead 26 wins to 16.
Visit the Henley Boat Races website for more information.
It is now a tradition for the previous year’s losing club send a challenge to the winning clubs’s president:
On behalf of <the losing> club I challenge you to an Eight Oared Race down 2000m of the Henley Reach. Do you accept my challenge?
To this the winning president replies:
On behalf of <the winning> club I accept your challenge.
