BUCS 2012 – Race Results

Narrowly missing out on the GOLD...
Narrowly missing out on the GOLD…

CULRC had some strong results at the BUCS regatta this year, unfortunately missing out on Gold but showing excellent strength in depth. The results are summarised below.

Saturday
LM1x – silver (Wedlake) – bt Leander /East London and narrowly missed catching Kieren Brown of GB U23 LM4x for gold

Sunday
LM8+ – silver (Hook/Kernick/Wedlake/Tedbury/Pitt-Ford/Kenyon/Morris/Kubie/Hayes) – 3rd in heat, won repechage, lost in final by 0.02s to University of London
IntM2x – 5th in repechage (White/Malek) qualified from time trial, 3rd in heat, unlucky not to make final in heavyweight event

Monday
LM2-(A) fourth (Pitt-Ford/Kernick) – qualified from time trial for A final (top 6 placing), <1/2 length 2nd to 4th, won by 4s by Imperial (both members of GB LM U23 squad)
LM2-(B) eighth (Kenyon/Thomas) – qualified from time trial for B final (top 12 placing), placed second in close race with Durham

Two members of the HBR crew were missing from the eight (Rupert Price (finals) and Matt White (weight)), so this was a chance for two of our best spares to race (Will Kenyon and Will Hayes). Most of the build up training was in small boats, so the heat was slightly below par (3rd) but a more encouraging repechage (first) led to a very well paced final for silver.

Another highlight was silver for James Wedlake in the single on Saturday, he set a record in the Boston Marathon last month and won a very well deserved silver on Saturday.
