Summer Racing Update

This weekend was a busy weekend for CULRC, with Rupert Price competing at the World Under-23 Championships and also several athletes at the British Championships. Rupert’s quad reached the B final for the lightweight mens quad sculls earlier in the week, and on Saturday they raced to third place in that final. Congratulations to Rupert on his achievement and we hope he will be able to build on this next year.

James Wedlake, Will Kenyon, Andrew Hunt and alumnus John Hale were all racing at the British Rowing Championships. James (racing as Walton), Will and Andrew were all competing in the Open Under-23 sculls and on the Saturday all three progressed through to the semi-finals. John (racing as Cantabrigian) was in the Lightweight sculls and led all the way to win his heat, seeing him straight through to the final.

On the Sunday, with the great conditions of the day before now giving way to an ever-increasing headwind (surprise!), James, Andrew and Will unfortunately missed out on their finals (4th, 4th and 6th respectively). John had a tough race in his final, managing to fend off a challenge from M Mitchell (Bexhill) to secure the silver medal behind Tom Hope (UTRC). John will now go on to represent England at the Home International Regatta next weekend in a double scull with Tom Hope.
