Intermediate Lightweight Sculls

Two scullers competed in this event – Will Kenyon (stroke of the 2013 boat) and Emmanuel Malek (spare 2013). Both progressed safely through the time trials, and in the semi-finals Will won in a close race, while Emmanuel just missed out in fourth place. Will then went on to win his final comfortably ahead of Durham and UL.

Championship Lightweight Sculls

Again, two scullers raced in the championship category for single sculls, Andrew Hunt and James Wedlake. Unfortunately only Andrew progressed through the time trial, but he then went on to come second in his semi-final, gaining a place in the final. After a lengthy tussle with the Nottingham sculler in the final, Andrew sadly came fourth, just missing out on the medals. A good result though, and against some top quality opposition from Manchester, Imperial and Nottingham.

Lightweight Eights

On the Saturday, CULRC put in a lightweight eight of:

B: Will Handy

2: Christopher Kerr

3: Niko Szumilo

4: Jack Buckingham

5: James Wedlake

6: Will Kenyon

7: Andrew Hunt

S: Emmanuel Malek

C: Callum Mantell

The final was a close race throughout, with CULRC coming in second place (time 6:31.5), behind UL and in front of Newcastle. Not bad considering the exam pressures and changes from the boat race crew!

Lightweight Pairs

The lightweight pair of James Wedlake and Andrew Hunt had a good start to the day, progressing through the time trial and semi finals with no issues (and indeed competing well with the Imperial pair who led their semi final). However… things didn’t go to plan as they managed to miss the start of their final! We’ll call it a would-have-been medal then…
