Cambridge Winter Head 2011

CULRC fielded 6 crews this weekend at the Cambridge Winter Head. Of these 6 entries 5 were in the top 10 for the event (of 250 crews). Only the scratch quad combination missed out on a top 10 spot.

In the first division the developed crews of the Quad (who raced at the fours head 2 weeks earlier), and two matched Eights raced over the course in fine style. Our quickest eight came 2nd overall on 8:12 (only behind a talented club Eight featuring several CULRC Alumni) while the other Eight had a few problems down the course and finished equal 6th with the same time as the Quad on 8:19. Once time-adjusted (to normalise across boat types) the Quad posted the quickest time of the whole event and took home the winner’s prize of £100.

In the second and third divisions the club put out 2 more equal scratch eights and a scratch quad, providing everyone with some valuable race experience and a chance to prove themselves.

The squad showed real strength and depth to post such great results in matched and scratch crews. We look forward to Fairbairns on the 2nd December, where the whole squad will again feature to race against the best of the Colleges on the Cam.
